In some sites it is necessary to use modems to connect the remote clocks to the computer system. This document describes the cables that are required to connect the clock to a modem.

Cabling

There are 2 cables involved.
One joins the PC to the Modem. This cable is a standard cable, usually supplied with the modem.
The other cable connects the modem to the CapeClock. The cable consists of a RJ12 connector on the clock end, and either a DB25 (male), or a DB9 (male) connector on the modem end. Only 3 wires are necessary for the connection. Use one of the wiring diagrams below to make this cable.

 

Note that the tag on the RJ12 connector is uppermost in the above diagrams.

Also  carefully note the numbering of the pins on the DB connectors. The view in the above diagrams is from the solder-side of the connector.
