Back to the documentation pageAdding another reader to the CapeClock

You will need:

  • A Flat screw-driver

  • A 5.5mm socket and driver.

  • A Reader (with same power voltage and Wegen output as the existing reader).

  • A 4way/5way Molex connector housing and the terminal pins that will be crimped to the wire.

  1. Turn the power to the CapeClock off.

  2. Remove the CapeClock from the wall (if you have already mounted it) by loosening the two mounting screws at the bottom of the clock sufficiently to remove the clock off the bracket that is mounted on the wall. Take care, because when the clock is pulled from the screws holding it to the wall-mounted bracket, it will have nothing holding it up. To remove it from the wall-mounted bracket completely, gently lower it, taking care that any wires that are already connected are not strained.

  3. Place the CapeClock face-down on a protective cloth so that the readers and front are not scratched. Remove the Back-plate by removing the 4 galvanized nuts that keep it attached to the CapeClock box.

  4. The reader that you are adding, must have the same power voltage as the reader that is already installed. The reader voltage is set by the jumper JP2 in the window of the CapeClock's back-plate. Do not alter it, as this could cause permanent damage to the existing reader.

  5. The reader must have a single Wegen output, with 2 power wires. Other wires may be clipped and insulated to prevent short circuits. The 3 wires should be crimped and housed into a 4 or 5 way Molex connector on pins 1,2 & 4 as in the diagram to the right. The Red wire represents the Positive supply, Black represents Ground and the Blue, the Wegen data output.

  6. Insert the Molex connector onto the 5way header pins marked READ 2, with the positive wire matching the '+' symbol on the PCB. The Header and plug will thus be partially obscured by the back-plate. A 4way Molex socket will leave the lowest header pin vacant.

  7. Attach the Back-plate to the CapeClock box using the 4 galvanized nuts.

  8. Replace the CapeClock back onto its wall bracket, ensuring that the tongue of the back-plate is inserted into the corresponding groove in the wall-mounted bracket. Secure the CapeClock onto the wall-mounted bracket (see Figure 3) with the 2 Mounting screws at the bottom of the CapeClock, ensuring that the cable cover plate (see Figure 4) is correctly positioned.
